School Mask Mandate Update

7 February 2022

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

During today’s press conference, Governor Murphy announced that, effective Monday, 7 March 2022, the school mask mandate will be lifted in New Jersey schools. As such, masks will be optional in our schools for students, faculty, staff, and visitors, beginning Monday, 7 March 2022.

Additionally, Governor Murphy indicated that updated guidelines for determining close contacts will be forthcoming from the New Jersey Department of Health. Currently, the guidelines for determining close contacts of positive Covid cases are dependent upon duration of time, distance, and masks, as well as vaccination status. Once I receive these updated guidelines, I will send another correspondence that outlines this relevant information, which should allow you to make an informed decision regarding masking for your child(ren), beginning 7 March 2022.

As always, thank you for your ongoing support of our efforts and for your continued partnership with our District.

Respectfully,

Danielle M. Da Giau, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
Old Tappan Public School District
