03/12/2020 ANNOUNCEMENT
OLD TAPPAN PK-8 SCHOOLS: EARLY DISMISSAL AND CLOSURE

This is Danielle Da Giau, Superintendent of the PK-8 Old Tappan Public Schools.  Following this evening’s Bergen County Executive’s announcement for Bergen County school closures, TBD and CDW will be having an early dismissal tomorrow, Friday, 13 March 2020, at 12:30 PM, which will be followed by a mandated school closure, beginning on Monday, 16 March, until further notice. At this point, it looks like we will be closed for a minimum of two weeks. Once we are advised of a re-opening date, I will be sure to inform you immediately. Please know that we do not have any known cases of the Coronavirus at TBD or CDW. Students who participate in Aftercare will be supervised tomorrow, beginning at 12:30 PM.

Tomorrow’s half day will allow the teachers the necessary time to gather their materials for the upcoming closure and online instruction. Monday will be considered a snow day. Beginning on Tuesday, 17 March 2020, teachers will be posting assignments to their websites by 8:30 AM every day through the closure.

If your child is too ill to complete the schoolwork, please notify the school’s attendance line, as you normally would, to report your child’s “absence.” Even though we are not in school, we have to account for all students’ well-being.

If you or your child needs help accessing the teachers’ websites, please contact the principal or me. We will be accessible during the day by e-mail. If your child needs to borrow a Chromebook during the closure to complete the day’s assignments, please visit me in the Board Office at 277 Old Tappan Road at any time between 8:00 AM and 12:00 noon on any day of the closure, and I will be there.

All directions to complete the daily assignments will be included on the teachers’ e-Learning Activities tab of their websites. If you have any questions, please feel free to email the principals or teachers. We will be available electronically to answer questions and assist students.

As we think forward, if you have travel plans for April break, please contact our school nurses, via e-mail, to let them know of your plans. They will offer you advice and recommendations.

Thank you for your cooperation and patience with this flexible e-learning alternative during this challenging time. We hope everyone stays healthy and safe, and we look forward to seeing our students tomorrow!
