Message from the Superintendent: Positive Case Notification 1/6/21

6 January 2021

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

This letter is to inform you that, today, we learned one (1) individual of the T. Baldwin Demarest Elementary School has tested positive for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). This individual has not been in the school, so there are no close contacts to identify or notify. As a District, we respect the privacy of individuals who have tested positive and, if there are any, those identified as close contacts. We ask that you do the same.

The Health Department has been consulted, and our schools will remain open for in-person learning.

As a repeated reminder, if your child develops one or more COVID-19 related symptoms, please do not send your child to school and contact your doctor, as well as the school nurse.  It is important to inform the school nurse if your child was tested for COVID-19, as well as to share the results. If you are awaiting testing results, please do not send your child to school until you receive the results. Please feel free to contact Ms. Lehmann (TBD) at 201-664-7176 ext. 1104 / [email protected] or Ms. McCarthy (CDW) at 201-664-1475 ext. 2103 / [email protected].

We encourage parents/guardians and students to continue to follow the CDC-promoted safeguards, such as:

  • Staying home when you are sick;
  • Washing hands often with soap for at least 20 seconds;
  • Covering coughs and sneezes and properly disposing of tissues;
  • Limiting close contact with people who are sick and not sharing food, drinks, and utensils;
  • Practicing social distancing;
  • Wearing a face covering while in school; and
  • Continuing to monitor your health for symptoms.
