Message from the Superintendent: School Closure Update and Reminders 4-16-2020

16 April 2020

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

Today, Governor Murphy announced that all schools in New Jersey will remain closed through, at least, Friday, 15 May 2020. At that point, the Governor will be revisiting this decision to see if another extension is necessary.

Our dedicated faculty will continue to provide for the continuity of instruction via e-Learning through the week of 11-15 May 2020. Our sophistication with e-Learning is ever-growing, with every day being a new adventure. We thank you for your positive feedback and encouragement. That keeps us going!

As we proceed with this public health-related school closure, please know that school personnel will continue to be a support system for you at home, just as you are a support system for our faculty and staff. Together, we will get through this -- collaboration is the only way to endure this ongoing challenge.

If, at any point during the closure, you find that your child(ren) would like to talk with someone from the school, please know that we are always available. Aside from the teachers, our principals, counselors, and nurses are available to support all students. Please email any of us, and we will get back to you quickly. Also, I will be in the Board Office every day, minimally, from 8:00 AM – 12 noon.

Today’s announcement will not thwart our spirit or creativity. As we have been doing since the beginning of the closure, the principals and I will continue to share information with you about virtual spirit activities, student-wellness ideas, report cards, parent-teacher conferences, field trip reimbursements, and year-end activity plans. We are in the process of planning a no-fee Summer Skill-Booster Program with our teachers, and an interest-survey will be sent to you shortly.

As our school closure continues, the ongoing practice of social distancing remains a necessity.

  • Joining together with friends and for play-dates, inside or outside, may only cause the situation to worsen. We all need to do our part to help “flatten the curve” of this outbreak.
  • You may be carrying the virus and not know it. Even if you or your child(ren) do not show symptoms of COVID-19, you could be a carrier of the virus to others. It is important to remember that you can give the virus to another without being sick yourself.

Thank you for your continued understanding, patience, and gracious support of us. Our partnership is invaluable. And, remember, continue to do only what you can at home; it will be more than enough.

Stay healthy and safe,

Danielle M. Da Giau, Ed.D.
