Message from the Superintendent: Positive Cases Notification 2/10/21

10 February 2021

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

This letter is to inform you that, today, we learned one (1) individual of the T. Baldwin Demarest Elementary School and five (5) individuals of the Charles DeWolf Middle School have tested positive for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). The Health Department has been notified.

For some of these cases, there were no close contacts to identify or notify. For those cases with close contacts, all individuals have been identified and notified. As a District, we respect the privacy of individuals who have tested positive and, if there are any, those identified as close contacts. We ask that you do the same.

As repeated reminders, if your child develops one or more COVID-19 related symptoms, please do not send your child to school and contact your doctor, as well as the school nurse.  It is important to inform the school nurse if your child was tested for COVID-19, as well as to share the results. If you are awaiting testing results, please do not send your child to school until you receive the results. Please feel free to contact Ms. Lehmann (TBD) at 201-664-7176 ext. 1104 / [email protected] or Ms. McCarthy (CDW) at 201-664-1475 ext. 2103 / [email protected].

Please remember that the health and safety of our school community is built upon reciprocal trust. To maintain in-person instruction, everyone must do his/her part.

We encourage parents/guardians and students to continue to follow the CDC-promoted safeguards, such as:

  • Staying home when you are sick;
  • Washing hands often with soap for at least 20 seconds;
  • Covering coughs and sneezes and properly disposing of tissues;
  • Limiting close contact with people who are sick and not sharing food, drinks, and utensils;
  • Practicing social distancing;
  • Wearing a face covering while in school; and
  • Continuing to monitor your health for symptoms.

Your support and cooperation are appreciated.

Respectfully,

Danielle M. Da Giau, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools/Acting Principal, CDW
Old Tappan Public School District
