Happy New Year! Confirmation of Return on 1/3/22

1 January 2022

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

Happy New Year!

The faculty, staff, and I are looking forward to seeing our students back in school on Monday, 3 January 2022, as scheduled. We are hopeful that 2022 brings good health and cheerfulness to all.

Our schools continue to be successful because of our reciprocal trust and open communication. In that spirit and as reminders for our return, if your child(ren) develops one or more COVID-19 related symptoms, please do not send your child(ren) to school. If you are awaiting testing results, please do not send your child(ren) to school until you receive the results. Our school nurses and principals remain responsive and available to assist you. They will answer your individual questions and work with you to determine school return dates for your child(ren), if necessary. Our
existing guidelines for isolation and quarantine remain in effect.

Although the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reduced their isolation and quarantine guidelines for the general public, we have been advised by the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) and the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) that these updated CDC guidelines for the general public do not yet apply to schools. If and when school updates are issued, I will be certain to share those with you promptly.

Should you have any questions, please contact our nurses, Ms. Borzone (TBD) at 201-664-7176 ext. 1104 /
[email protected] or Ms. McCarthy (CDW) at 201-664-1475 ext. 2103 / [email protected]. Or, you may wish to contact one of our principals, Ms. Boyce (TBD) at 201-664-7176 ext. 1000 / [email protected] or Ms. Santa (CDW) at 201-664-1475 ext. 0 / [email protected].

We appreciate your continued honesty with us. During December break, we learned twelve (12) individuals of the T. Baldwin Demarest Elementary School and six (6) individuals of the Charles DeWolf Middle School tested positive for COVID-19. A number of these cases resolved themselves during the break, and there were no close contacts to identify or notify. As a District, we respect the privacy of anyone who has tested positive. As is required, the Health Department has been informed of all cases.

We are grateful for your reasonability and partnership.

See you on Monday!

Respectfully,

Danielle M. Da Giau, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
Old Tappan Public School District
