Message from the Superintendent: Summer Skill-Booster Program

20 May 2021

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

Thank you for your ongoing support of our schools, as we successfully continue with full-days of in-person instruction. Our faculty, staff, and students demonstrate collaborative spirit in the most impressive ways.

Recently, the State made a few announcements of interest. Firstly, Governor Murphy lifted the domestic travel quarantine advisory, which means that students and staff no longer need to quarantine after returning from domestic travel. Secondly, Governor Murphy is ending the full-time remote learning option for students in the 2021-2022 school year. Lastly, through Executive No. 241, Governor Murphy stated that masks need not be worn in “outdoor public spaces;” however, on Page 6 of this Order, it indicates that “outdoor public spaces” do not include schools. Therefore, until school guidance changes, we will continue wearing masks indoors and outdoors. Given the warmer temperatures, we will offer children increased mask breaks, especially outdoors, and continue to be responsive to situational and student needs. As changes are made at the State-level that affect schools, I will keep you informed.

This July, we will be hosting another Summer Skill-Booster Program for students currently enrolled in Kindergarten through Grade 8. With the willingness of our teachers to work during July, we are able to provide grade-level sessions. Below is a description of the program and directions for registration.

Program Information and Registration:

The Summer Skill-Booster Program is a free, in-person program that reviews the essential skills of the grade levels that just ended. It is a simple, two-week program that offers a review of academic skills of your child’s 2020-2021 grade-level.

  • Grade-level sessions will run in two-week intervals during July, in either the mornings or afternoons.
  • The program is free-of-charge.
  • Sessions only will be offered in-person. There is no virtual component.

How to Register
:

  • Find the dates and time span below that work with your calendar.
  • Click on the Session link to see when your child’s grade-level is offering sessions. These sessions were planned based on teachers’ availability. There are multiple options for grade-levels so look through the links.
  • You may register directly through the Session link. Register for one session per child.
  • If all seats are filled for your session of choice, please email Mr. Lauriello, CDW Student Manager and Summer Program Supervisor, at [email protected].

Program Rules
:

  1. State-imposed school guidance that is in place at the time of the program will be enforced. In other words, if masks are still required for schools, then students will be required to wear them.
  2. Students should be dropped off and picked up in the front of the school building, K-4 at TBD and Grades 5-8 at CDW.
  3. Each student must bring his/her own water bottle and a snack, if the child chooses. Because you would be registering for either a morning or an afternoon session, lunch is not necessary.
  4. Students in K-4 must bring the following supplies in a labeled Ziploc bag: pencils, erasers, and colored pencils or crayons. Students in Grades 5-8 must bring the following supplies in a labeled Ziploc bag: pens and pencils, post-it notes, and a notebook or loose-leaf paper. Students in Grades 5-7 should also bring their school-issued Chromebooks.

Hopefully, the program’s days and times you see will coordinate well with your child’s schedule. If not, we appreciate the time you took to consider this summer program. Should you have any questions about the Summer Skill-Booster Program, please contact Mr. Lauriello, CDW Student Manager and Summer Program Supervisor, at
[email protected].

We are looking forward to the 2021-2022 school year and to the greater sense of normalcy that lies ahead.

Respectfully,

Danielle M. Da Giau, Ed.D.
