Message from the Superintendent: Possible Inclement Weather

15 December 2020

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

Winter temperatures are now with us, and winter weather is in the forecast!

The 2020-2021 school year continues to provide unique experiences for our students, staff, and families. For this school year, school districts are permitted to use virtual or remote instruction to meet the 180-day requirement that is stipulated in New Jersey. Schools are eligible for this allowance because a public-health emergency is still in effect.

As such, in the event of inclement weather, which would make travel hazardous for children, families, and staff, we will hold a virtual e-learning day. The students would follow the school’s e-learning schedule established for each building. If faced with inclement weather, we hope that this will give students the opportunity to continue with instruction, given our already-altered year, while also giving students an opportunity to enjoy playing outdoors, if conditions allow.

We will make our best effort to provide notice prior to a weather event and will continue to coordinate with our Northern Valley counterparts. As in the past, you would receive notification using our usual phone, e-mail, text notification system. Please be sure your contact information remains up-to-date in your Genesis Parent Portal.

As we move into the warmer months, the Board of Education will adjust the school calendar to account for the unused emergency closing days.

I recognize the shift from tradition this school year brings for all of us, and I look forward to returning to our school traditions soon. Thank you, as always, for your cooperation and partnership.

I look forward to seeing our students in school tomorrow, Wednesday, 16 December!

Respectfully,

Danielle M. Da Giau, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools/Acting Principal, CDW
Old Tappan Public School District
