Message from the Superintendent: Re-Opening Update 8-4-20

4 August 2020

Dear Parent(s)/Parent(s):

Thank you to the hundreds of families who have already replied to our Return-to-School Intention SurveyThe survey will close this Friday, 8/7/2020, at midnight. Your responses will aid us in finalizing our return-to-school plans. If you choose not to respond to the survey, then it will be assumed that your child(ren) will be returning to school for in-person classroom instruction. Once the Return-to-School Intention Survey closes, I will share with you a broad overview of the results in a future weekly communication.

During yesterday afternoon’s news briefing, Governor Murphy announced that everyone attending school must wear face masks at all times, unless medically exempt. While this announcement does not alter our District’s Re-Opening Plan much, this directive will require us to have students wear their face masks from time of arrival to time of dismissal, unless needing to get some moments of air behind their desk shields. As always, our attuned faculty and staff will be responsive to our students’ needs. If this latest piece of information changes your decision about your child(ren)’s return to school, please go back into the Return-to-School Intention Survey and re-submit your family’s response(s).

We have updated the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to reflect this latest announcement by Governor Murphy. We will continue to add to the FAQs, and we hope that you continue to find this document helpful.

As I repeatedly mention, our Re-Opening Plan is awaiting review by the County Department of Education and approval by the State Department of Education. Any imposed directive(s) by these Departments of Education or any directive from the Governor’s Office could change our Plan at any time. These weekly communications will keep you updated of our status.

Be careful on this dreary day.

Respectfully,

Danielle M. Da Giau, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
Old Tappan Public School District
