"The important thing is not so much that every child should be taught, as that every child should be given the wish to learn."
    ~John Lubbock

Principal Welcome to the T. Baldwin Demarest School, a learning community that offers a warm, nurturing environment for its elementary grade students. Teachers and instructional aides work cooperatively to address core curriculum standards in a hands-on, multi-sensory manner. Differentiation of instruction designed to suit the diverse needs of our young learners is evident in unit planning and daily lesson presentation. Communication between home and school is viewed as an important component of each child’s educational program.
Through the generosity of the Old Tappan Elementary PTO and individual community members, our children enjoy a variety of cultural arts experiences including school-wide assembly programs, an annual cultural arts dance festival, and a yearly author-in-residence presentation. In addition, children are exposed to the works of famous artists such as Van Gogh, Monet, Winslow Homer, and Bernini through the efforts of our parent inspired and implemented ACE (Art and Culture Education) program.
As principal, I am proud to work with dedicated colleagues in a community where education and life-long learning are valued and supported.
