Welcome to the Website for the K-8 Old Tappan School District.
The Old Tappan School District enjoys a reputation for excellence among the many outstanding school districts in Bergen County. Our district serves approximately 870 students in T. Baldwin Demarest Elementary School (K-4) and Charles DeWolf Middle School (5-8). In the words of our Mission Statement, “The ultimate goal is to develop students who are responsible citizens prepared to participate in a constantly changing society.” This requires a sharp focus on academic achievement with an eye toward supporting students’ social and emotional growth.
Old Tappan graduates, along with students from Harrington Park, Northvale, and Norwood, attend Northern Valley Regional High School in Old Tappan, a district ranked among the best in New Jersey and the nation. In order to ensure a consistent and well-articulated curriculum, more than 40 years ago the seven Northern Valley K-8 districts joined with Northern Valley Regional High School District to form the Northern Valley Schools Consortium. Serving 14 schools, over 500 teachers, and more than 6,000 students, the Consortium has received considerable State-wide recognition as a model for shared services. The eight school districts have been commended by the New Jersey State Department of Education for their cooperative efforts to strengthen curriculum and instruction.
Our Website seeks to create open avenues of communication for our parents and the Old Tappan community. As we strive to provide accurate and up-to-date information, please feel free to contact us about how we can improve our Website to better serve your information needs.
Thank you.
