Daily Practice For each chunk combination, have your child name the letters that form the chunk, provide the correct chunk sound and identify the accompanying picture cue.
Example: letters --- sound --- picture c-h --- ch-ch --- chair t-r --- tr-tr --- truck
Variations: * Sing or chant the chunk chart using a familiar beat or ryhthm. * Read every other box. * Read only the chunks at the top of the box without the picture cue. * Read only the words.
Five Focus Sounds Select 5 chunk sounds for focus. Provide 5 different words other than those featured on the chart. Your child should listen to each word presented and place a marking chip (or penny) on the box for the chunk sounds heard. Say:"Place your chip on the chunk you would expect to see in the word _______ex: grass." (Your child would place a chip on the picture of the grape for the gr combination.
